For instance, asking 'what is the population of France?' gives you not only the current population (64.1 million) but also graphs with recent and long-term population history and age distribution, and also a list of the largest cities in France, with population numbers.
Wolfram|Alpha tries to choose the best representations for its answers. This can be text, but it also uses tables, graphs and pictures when appropriate.
